Text A Librarian Now Available

September 10th, 2009   Filed Under New Services

A new, convenient way to ask us a question. Text (773) 442-2758!

Away from your computer and not able to IM the NEIU Library? Try sending us a text/SMS from your cell phone instead. During regular Library hours we will reply immediately, just as we do with instant messaging.

Naturally this service is best suited for short, quick answers to questions that we can respond to in 160-320 characters or less. Text/SMS your questions to (773) 442-2758, and don’t forget to add the NEIU Library SMS number to your address book!

* The service itself is free, but please remember that your cell phone provider may charge you for each text/SMS you send or receive.

IM a Librarian from Facebook or MySpace

March 30th, 2009   Filed Under New Services

We have answered well over 600 questions already through the NEIU Library’s instant message (IM) service, and we just launched it last fall. Anytime the Library is open, you can send an IM to an NEIU librarian and get an immediate answer.

Now, we’re expanding the service to offer IM boxes right in our Facebook and MySpace pages. We realize that many of you spend a lot of time in these social networking sites, so we’ve made it easy for you to find us there, too. Here’s how:

Forget the stubby pencils and pieces of scrap paper! The NEIU Library now texts the locations of items to cell phones. Go to the full record view of an item and click on the link that says Text me this call number. After you’ve entered your complete phone number and service provider, you’ll receive a text message with the title, call number, location, and status of your item.
