The Hummingbird’s Daughter: A Novel, by Luis Alberto Urrea

Jonathan Kozol continues his life’s work of exposing the damaging effects of racial segregation in America’s public schools, which are less integrated now than they were two decades ago. He combines the personal stories of young people growing up in neglected classrooms with specific observations about how “education reform” has largely failed our country (especially America’s racial and ethnic minorities), and concludes by focusing on what we can do to reverse this destructive trend.
