   ‘Derived From the Sounds of Souls’, the exhibit of new works by Xin Zhao, gave ample evidence of her fine sense of form and her ability to use color intelligently. Her artwork has a fresh, contemporary look without her ever using any of the tired ‘shock value’ gimmicks that so many artists today rely on in the hope of getting their viewers’ attention. Visitors examined the works carefully; it was obvious that they appreciated them. Since the works are often subtle, it makes sense to view them longer. The artist’s written statement was also very thought provoking. A memorable exhibit!
