Saskia Image Collection Available
As a member of the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI), the Ronald Williams Library now has access to a major collection of digital art images through CARLI’s new digital library. CARLI has purchased the Saskia digital image archive from Scholars Resource containing 30,000 digital images of paintings, sculpture and architecture, including images from many important collections: the Prado, the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Uffizi, and the Louvre as well as archaeological sites in Greece, Italy, Turkey and Egypt. The images are displayed in both high resolution and thumbnail format.
Access to the collection is via CARLI’s CONTENTdm-based digital library service. Users can browse or search the entire collection or limit their interest to sub-collections based on images from 19 major art history textbooks, including Gardner’s Art Through the Ages, 12th edition; Understanding Art, 7th edition and Art and Ideas, 10th edition.
CONTENTdm also allows the user to view images in detail, download selected images or save them into a “My Favorites” folder. Additionally, Web pages can be easily created with a few clicks. The Saskia Image Collection can be accessed at http://collections.carli.illinois.edu/.
