InfoLit: New Information Literacy Tutorial Teaches Students How to Select and Evaluate Information
November 20th, 2006 Filed Under Instruction, New Resources
The Library provides access to a variety of materials in a variety of formats. The process of accessing and evaluating information is increasingly complex given the plethora of information available. As the introduction to the Information Literacy tutorial states: “Information is available from many sources and in many formats, such as printed text, television, videos, library databases, web sites, and more. To be ‘information literate’ you need to know why, when, and how to use all of these tools and how to think critically about the information they provide.”
The Information Literacy tutorial adapted by Michael Weinberg is now available online. It includes an explanation of the types of resources available, where to find them and how to select the best resources for research. A follow-up assessment/quiz is available to upload to Blackboard courses or to distribute in print format.
